The name Meghalaya means ˜abode of clouds" in Sanskrit. It is also known as the Scotland of the East. Meghalaya Tourism has abundant rainfall and sunshine around the year and is considered to be one of the richest botanical habitats in Asia. The state has several valleys, highland plateaus and lush green hills and is speckled with big waterfalls. The state has an international border with Bangladesh and also borders Assam. Meghalaya is best visited during the winter months of November to February. This is when it is ideal for sightseeing as rain doesn't play spoilsport and the scorching sun doesn't take away all your energy.
You are picked up from the Airport and after breakfast, you proceed to Shillong. Shillong became the first capital of the State of Meghalaya. Located in undulating pine-covered hills, the city has a milder climate than tropical India. The city centre is 1496 m above sea level and currently has a population of around 270,000. Home to several waterfalls, it is also known as the Scotland of the East. We stop to visit the Umiam Lake also known as 'Bara Pani' which is a vast and scenic reservoir surrounded by lush green hills. It is also a popular destination for water sports. On arrival, check in to the hotel in Shillong. Visit Police Bazar and stroll in the heart of the City. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Enjoy the sight of water rushing down from 1,100 feet through the green forest into a deep waterhole that has unusually blue water like a lagoon. A short trek through some of the amazing terrain and watching a great variety of birds as we reach the entrance of Mawsmai Caves. These limestone caves have the distinction of being the only cave in Meghalaya that are lit enough to enable visitors to explore the natural formations in awe. Then, visit the Seven Sister Falls also known as 'Nohsngithiang Falls' is a seven segmented waterfall that plunges over the top of a limestone cliff. The view is spectacular which leaves one spellbound. Lastly, visit Elephant Falls for some breathtaking views. A British officer named this falls owing to the presence of an elephant-shaped rock on one side of the falls. This rock was later destroyed due to an earthquake. At Elephanta Falls, one can get very close and enjoy its serenity. Sight Seeing options in Cherrapunjee are-1. Mawsmai Cave & Eco-park. 2. Seven sister falls 3. NohKaLikai Falls 4. I with my family recently visited Himachal with nestravels. I am really very impressed with Mr. Debjyoti Chanda who called up every morning and evening to elaborate details about sightseeing and took feedback about the day spent. Everything from Hotels to the vehicle provided was excellent and the Driver who was also our guide was very knowledgeable. Thank you Sir for a great Holiday and though you are in the northeast, I will avail your service in every future trip anywhere in the country.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ By aahan raj

North East Sojourn Travels (NEST) is the best!!! We went to Nagaland, Assam and Arunachal for 10 days with NEST. Ours was not a usual trip and it involved a lot of off-roading, remote areas and long travels. Most of the areas we visited had limited phone networks, forget about the internet. When you are on such a trip, you get many hurdles along the way. We got delayed by a day due to a landslide along the way and once our car broke down. But NEST ensured a smooth and comfortable journey even on the treacherous roads. During that trip, we visited the remotest villages of Nagaland, attended a ceremony in a Monastery and get to know to meet Tai Phake Tribe, visited the famous Parshuram Kund, get to see the first sun rays that enters India in Dong Village of Arunachal, went up to the last eastern village of India and see China border, went till Anini Village and get to meet Idu Mishmi tribe there. All of these experiences were flawless and memorable because of the way NEST organised this trip. Every day the owner of the company Mr Debjyoti would call us, our stay owners and our driver to ensure a smooth trip for us. In short, NEST made a difficult trip, smooth for us. We would love to cover other parts of Arunachal with NEST soon.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ By keshav kumar
