A panoramic vintage van ride'll take us to the Tsagaan Suvarga Canyon where you can visualize how Mars planet looks like and head furthermore into the southwest to visit Yolyn Am gorge, which lies among Gobi Gurvansaikhan Mountain Range and lots of sandy riverbed crossings eventually leading you to Khongor Sand Dunes, where you'll get acquainted with an awe-inspiring scenery of the Gobi-Desert. A mountain corrugated road leads us to the famous Flaming Cliffs "Bayanzag" where the first dinosaur eggs discovered and head to the northeast to visit a none-touristy nomads.

    ITINERARY

Head to Tsagaan Suvarga, located in the Southwest of Dundgovi province. It is a big limestone escarpment facing east, which looks like Mars planet from its top and it provides excellent scenery of the amazing limestone formations created by the wind. The place is an ancient seabed aged over 70 million years and offers naturally formed sedimentary fissures with multiple colors of ochre.

Drive to Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park to visit Yolyn am, a deep and narrow gorge with steep rock walls situated at the southern end of the Altai Mountain Range. The Gorge is named after vulture, which is called Yol in Mongolian as well as known as ice canyon. The ice field reaches over 3m deep in some years, and stretches several kilometers. The ice field remained whole year round in the past years, but lately the ice tends to disappear in mid-July due to global warming.

Head to Khongor sand dunes, the second largest and most spectacular sand dunes in Mongolia that offers the iconic images of the Gobi Desert which we strive for. The dunes stretched in an extraordinary 120km, 3-28km wide and about 300m high from its base to top. Here we’ll enjoy camel riding in the endless steppe and climb up to the peak of a singing dune to see gorgeous sunset and amazing panoramic views of the surrounding oasis.

Drive to "The Flaming Cliffs or Bayan Zag – saxaul forest lies around 90 km from the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. The place became famous with its first scientifically recognized dinosaur fossilized eggs in the world and different species of dinosaur skeletons was discovered by Roy Andrew Chapman, American explorer in 1923.

Head to our first destination “Baga gazaryn chuluu” , a magnificent view of granite rock hills, covers a 15km x 10km area, lies at the intersection between Gobi-Desert and Steppe zone. Plenty of small stacked rocks on flat layers of granites are everywhere and there are several sights to see such as a mineral spring for eye sight, old temple remnants surrounded by birch trees and naturally formed small caves. It is an ideal for rock scrambling and hiking.

After breakfast, Head to Gorkhi Terelj National, located 65 km northeast of Ulaanbaatar by paved road. High granite stone mountains with forest-covered northern slopes, multitudes of wildflower meadows along with the spectacular shape rocks formed by wind is a favorite scenery for the visitors. Fast-flowing rivers and streams make the national park more beautiful. Once reach the park we will walk uphill to see a small meditation temple from which you can see a stunning view of rugged mountains.

After hearty breakfast, drive back to Ulaanbaatar city. On the way, we'll visit Chinggis Khaan's Statue, a gigantic steel equine statue mounted by Genghis Khan himself is the largest statue of an equestrian in the world. This 40 m tall statue is located on a hillside on the bank of the Tuul River in an area called Tsonjin Boldog and connected to capital Ulaanbaatar by 54 km paved road. Tsonjin Boldog was chosen according to the legend that Genghis Khan found a whip in this area. In Mongolia, people believe that man finding a whip is a sign of fortune, good destiny, and occasion.
